We wrote books about martyrs, we sang songs about peace
We all jumped in unison and the world, fell beneath our feet
We had just enough to make it, we had everything we needed
But any human construct has no solidarity
Because both promises and threats these days, are merely partisan
All of our efforts spent on digging trenches, nothing will get done
Positions of authority will do just as they please
If we sit on our hands, we will die upon our knees
So…
One nation indivisible is unified by guilt
Of the hand to mouth society, for ourselves we have built
Can’t expect anything to change, without joining the game
But those who become a part of it, will oppress us all the same
The suffering of one, the responsibility of all
The obligation of the fortunate, to those who take the fall
And of the people on top, to us what living do they owe
Is wealth a palace or a ghetto, from which they can’t outgrow
So…
So, break down the walls around you, including the support beams
If I cannot have freedom, I’d rather not have anything
And, consider this a eulogy, for the victims of our violence
For they are all in debt to us at the price of our indifference
